SAC Places Nine on NSCAA/adidas All-Southeast Region Women's Soccer Team

The South Atlantic Conference had a total of nine women's soccer players named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas All-Southeast Region team.

Carson-Newman and Tusculum led the way with three selections each. Mars Hill, Newberry and Presbyterian each had one representative.

Carson-Newman

Rebecca Angus and Julie Nelson have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's All-Southeast Region first team while teammate Brittany Moore earned second team honors.

Rebecca Angus

Angus, the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, led the Lady Eagles with 21 goals as Carson-Newman finished the season with an 18-2-1 record and claimed the SAC regular season and tournament titles. Nelson scored seven goals and anchored a C-N defense that held opponents to a 0.97 goals against average. She was recently named team captain of the Northern Ireland national women's soccer team.  Moore scored four goals (including one game-winning goal) and dished four assists as a midfielder.

Tusculum

Three Tusculum College players have been named to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-Southeast Region Team announced College officials Wednesday.

Seniors Whitney Wardrop and Ashley Moreira were selected to the All-Region First Team, while sophomore Kelly Barron earned Third Team recognition.

The senior duo anchored one of the best defenses in the country as the Pioneers won the NCAA II Southeast Region Championship and advanced to the national quarterfinals for the first time in school history.  Tusculum (14-3-3) allowed just 14 goals all year, while posting a 0.68 goals against average.

Whitney Wardrop
Ashley Moreira

Wardrop, a 5-11 native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, enjoyed one of the finest seasons ever by a Tusculum goalkeeper.  Wardrop recorded a 0.69 GAA and accounted for 12 shutouts as she was named to the All-South Atlantic Conference First Team.  The 2005 SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player was stellar in goal during the postseason as she recorded consecutive 1-0 shutouts in wins over Armstrong Atlantic and No. 4 Carson-Newman to reach the NCAA Elite Eight.  In her two seasons at Tusculum, Wardrop boasts a 0.87 GAA, which is the second lowest in school history.  Earlier this month, she was named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region First Team as selected by NCAA II sports information directors.

Moreira, a 5-8 defender from London, Ontario, Canada, earns her third All-Region accolade and second this year.  She was named to the NSCAA/adidas® All-Southeast Region First Team in 2005 and was tabbed to the Daktronics All-Region First Team this season.  The two-time All-SAC selection led the Pioneers with seven assists to go along with a pair of goals, including the match-winner in Tusculum's 1-0 win over Armstrong Atlantic State University in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.  Moreira posted 31 career assists, tied for the most in school history.  She was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Third Team.

Barron, a 5-1 forward from Cincinnati, Ohio, was second on the team in goals scored (8) and points (19).  The 2006 All-SAC Second Team selection knocked home the match-winning goal in Tusculum's overtime win over Carson-Newman in the NCAA Tournament.

Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of nine colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Mars Hill
Jasmine Riley

Jasmine Riley (Arlington, VA) was selected to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas All-Southeast Region Team. Riley was a second team selection.

Riley, a 5-6, sophomore forward was a first team All-SAC selection. She led the team in goals scored (17), assists (7) and points (41). In the SAC statistical rankings Riley was second in points, fourth in points per game, second in goals scored, third in goals per game, and third in assists.

Riley had three game-winning goals. Riley was the 2005 SAC Freshman of the Year, a 2005 First Team All-SAC pick and a 2006 First Team Preseason All-SAC member. She also holds the school’s single season goals scored record of 20 goals scored during the 2005 season.

Newberry

Newberry College's Inga Woiwode was named third team NSCAA all-Southeast Region.

Inga Woiwode

Woiwode, a junior forward from El Paso, Texas, was the leading scorer for the Lady Indians, who went 8-8-2 this season.

She scored 11 goals and seven assists, for a total of 29 points. Two of the goals were game-winning goals. Also, Woiwode surpassed Michelle Baker as the school's all-time leading scorer, as she has scored 86 points on 29 goals and 28 assists in three years at Newberry.

This is the second post-season accolade for Woiwode in 2006, as she was named first team all-South Atlantic Conference earlier. She has been named to the post-season all-conference team all three years of her career.

Woiwode was also an NSCAA all-region honoree following the 2004 season. This is the second all-region nod for a Lady Indian this year, as sophomore defender Elizabeth Jones was named second team DAKTRONICS all-Southeast Region earlier this month.

Presbyterian

Senior Lindsay Leffler was Presbyterian College’s lone representative on the 2006 NSCAA/adidas All-Southeast Region Team.

Lindsay Leffler

The North Cross School product earned a spot on the third team as a defender and was one of nine South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer players named to the all-region teams.

Leffler finished her senior campaign with a pair of goals from her back position, including converting on a penalty kick.  She earned All-SAC first team honors after helping to anchor a defense that boasted a 1.74 goals-against average and recorded five shutouts.

A four-year all-conference performer, the Rocky Mount, Va. native is picking up her third all-region nod as she garnered spots in 2003 and 2004.
