Mars Hill Hires Scott Donnelly As Men's Soccer Coach

MARS HILL, NC – Scott Donnelly has been named as the new head men’s soccer coach at Mars Hill College, Athletic Director David Riggins announced today.  Donnelly will begin his duties immediately.

Donnelly comes to MHC from Sewanee: The University of the South. He has both collegiate and club soccer coaching experience.  Donnelly was involved in all aspects of the program at Sewanee including team training and management, recruiting, and team conditioning.

Prior to his stint at Sewanee he was the Director of Coaching for the HCSA Summit Strikers in Frisco, Colorado.  Prior to that, Donnelly was the assistant men's soccer coach at Washington College in Chestertown, MD, from 2003-2005 where he contributed to one of the program's most successful years during the 2003 season and coached eight all-conference and one all-region player.  While at Washington, Donnelly was also involved in all aspects of the men's soccer program, including technical training, team conditioning and recruiting.

Donnelly played soccer in college at SUNY Geneseo from 2000-2002 after his freshman year as a member of the Binghamton University soccer program.  Following his collegiate career, Donnelly played professionally during the 2005 season in the USL second division and trained with Spanish Club FC Alcala de Guadaira.

Donnelly earned dual bachelors degrees in English Literature and Spanish Language from SUNY Geneseo in 2002 and completed a master’s degree in 2005 from Washington College.

Other coaching experience includes clinician experience at the University of Maryland, Loyola University, University at Buffalo and Washington College camps, and as camp director for High Country Soccer.

Donnelly holds the Advanced National and National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA).

Athletic Director David Riggins stated, “We are pleased to add Scott to the Mars Hill Family. His prior coaching stints have been at institutions which require excellence both academically and athletically. That experience will serve him well as he puts his stamp on our program.”

Coach Donnelly stated, “I am very excited to begin leading the Mars Hill Men’s Soccer Program.  I look forward to many successes here on The Hill and I appreciate the opportunity to lead at such a fine institution.”

Mars Hill College is a NCAA Division II institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference. The league is comprised of schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
