The South Atlantic Conference Announces Baseball Players of the Week, Feb. 23

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lincoln Memorial's Wes Neiderland was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Placido Torres of Tusculum was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 15-21, the League announced today.

Neiderland, a senior from Thompson Station, Tenn., hit .579 with 11 hits and a 1.105 slugging percentage to lead the Railsplitters to a 5-0 record last week.  He posted a hit in every game he played, including three multi-hit games.  Neiderland highlighted his week with a grand slam, two doubles and a single to finish with eight RBI in a 9-8 win over Tiffin on Feb. 19.  He posted an extra-base hit in 4-of-5 contests, stole a pair of bases and scored 10 runs in the five-game span.  The honor is his first Player of the Week nod this season.

Torres, a senior from North Brunswick, N.J. struck out a Tusculum single-game record 16 hitters in eight innings of work to pick up the win for the Pioneers over Kentucky Wesleyan on Feb. 20.  He allowed just one hit in his outing and surrendered only one earned run and two walks.  The 16 strikeouts are the most in a single-game in over 30 for the Pioneers.  The honor his is third Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
