The South Atlantic Conference Announces Baseball Players of the Week, March 1
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Brandon Roberts was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Placido Torres of Tusculum was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 22-28, the League announced today.
Roberts, a senior from Davie, Fla., recorded seven hits, three home runs and six RBI to lead the Eagles to a 4-0 record last week. He posted three multiple-hit games and highlighted his week with two homers and three RBI in an 8-1 win over McKendree on Feb. 27. He batted .538 in the four-game span to go along with a 1.231 slugging percentage and 10 runs scored. The award is his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Torres, a senior from North Brunswick, N.J. re-set his single-game strikeout record from a week before as he struck 17 hitters in a complete game one-hit shutout win over Stillman on Feb. 27. The lefty carried a no-hitter through six innings and retired his final seven batters, including six via strikeout. He currently sports an ERA of 0.30 and is undefeated on the year with a 4-0 record. The award is his fourth Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
