The South Atlantic Conference Announces Baseball Players of the Week, March 15
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Mars Hill's Evan Rogers was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Placido Torres of Tusculum was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played March 7-13, the League announced today.
Rogers, a senior from Kernersville, N.C., batted .500 and slugged 1.250 to lead the Lions to four wins last week, including a series sweep against League foe Carson-Newman. Posted multiple hits and multiple RBI in three of his four games last week and highlighted the four-game span with two long balls, four RBI and a single in a 15-12 win over the Eagles on March 11. He also added three doubles and a stolen base in the four wins for Mars Hill. The award is his first Player of the Week selection this season.
Torres, a senior from North Brunswick, N.J., struck out 14 hitters in a complete game shutout win over Brevard on March 11. The lefty retired the first nine batters he faced and scattered just five hits in the contest. He threw 128 pitches in his outing with only one walk in the contest. He was tested in the ninth as Brevard posted back-to-back singles. However, Torres struck out the next hitter he faced and ended the contest on a double-play. The award marks his fifth Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
