ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry infielder Colin Allman has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week and Lenoir-Rhyne right-handed pitcher John Grigg has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 26-Mar. 4, the League announced today.
Allman, a sophomore from Tampa, Fla., was nearly unstoppable at the plate this week, as he led the Newberry Wolves to a 3-1 record; including a SAC series win over Mars Hill. His final hit of the day was an extra-innings grand slam that gave the Wolves the 11-6 win.
Grigg, a sophomore from Lawndale, N.C., threw a five-hit shutout to lead the Bears to a 5-0 victory over Catawba in the second game of their doubleheader last week. Grigg struck out five batters and gave up just two walks in the win. He is now 3-0 on the year with a 2.49 ERA.
