ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry forward James Stepp has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 27 - Dec. 3, the League announced today.
Stepp, a senior from Greensboro, N.C., led the Wolves to a 2-1 record last week, as he averaged 20 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, 3.7 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game. In a five-point defeat at Wingate, he totaled 19 points, shot 53.8 percent from the field, and totaled six rebounds on Nov. 29. Stepp put up 19 points, while he shot 43.8 percent from the field, to go along with four rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 75-70 victory over Carson-Newman on Dec. 2. A day later, he recorded a week high 22 points on 42.9 percent shooting to go with nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in a 139-89 victory over Warren Wilson College on Dec. 3. The award is his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
