Mars Hill's Gilbert Receives Inaugural SAC David Riggins Service Award Winner

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Marty Gilbert of Mars Hill University has been selected as the first-ever recipient of the South Atlantic Conference David Riggins Service Award, the conference announced during its annual spring meeting last week.

Gilbert, an Assistant Professor of Computer Science, has served as the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) at Mars Hill for 16 years. During that time he has served the SAC and Mars Hill in numerous capacities, including serving as chair of the SAC FAR Committee, serving on NCAA Division II Legislation Committee and he is currently a member of the NCAA Division II Management Council.

In addition to his committee service, Gilbert has voluntarily served as the coordinator and facilitator of the SAC Scholar-Athlete voting and nomination process since 2008.

"Marty has gone above and beyond the call of duty for Mars Hill and the South Atlantic Conference," said SAC Commissioner Patrick Britz. "In addition he has represented Mars Hill and the SAC at multiple NCAA and Faculty Athletics Representative Association conventions. I cannot think of a better person to receive the first-ever SAC David Riggins Service Award than Marty."
