ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The South Atlantic Conference Football
Players of the Week have been announced for the week ending
November 7, 2010. Lenoir-Rhyne University running back James Pone
was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne strong
safety Carl Brooks was named Defensive Player of the Week, and
Catawba College defensive back/return specialist LJ McCray was
named Special Teams Player of the Week.

SAC Offensive Player Of The Week
James Pone, Lenoir-Rhyne University
Sr., RB, Wilson, N.C. (James B. Hunt HS)
Senior running back James Pone led Lenoir-Rhyne with a
career-high 144 yards rushing on just 10 carries (14.4-yard
average) to go along with three scores to lead the Bears to a 52-14
win over Carson-Newman Saturday in Jefferson City, Tenn. Pone, a
native of Wilson, N.C., scored on touchdown runs of 30, 65 and 12
yards as Lenoir-Rhyne (6-4, 3-3) clinched its first winning season
since 1994 and defeated Carson-Newman for the first time since the
1978 season. Pone is currently third on the squad this year in
rushing with 445 yards to go along with eight touchdowns while
averaging 8.9 yards per carry.

SAC Defensive Player Of The Week
Carl Brooks, Lenoir-Rhyne University
Sr., SS, Raleigh, N.C. (East Wake HS)
Senior strong safety Carl Brooks finished with eight tackles
(including two for a loss) and an interception in helping
Lenoir-Rhyne defeat Carson-Newman, 52-14, last Saturday on the
road. Brooks, a native of Raleigh, N.C., also led a Bears' defense
that held the Eagles to just 198 yards of total offense including a
season-low 117 on the ground. Carson-Newman came into the contest
ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II in rushing offense. Brooks, who
leads the squad this year with three interceptions to go along with
44 tackles, also helped L-R clinch its first winning season since
1994 and defeat Carson-Newman for the first time since 1978.

SAC Special Teams Player Of The Week
LJ McCray, Catawba College
Sr., DB, Charlotte, N.C. (Harding HS)
Senior defensive back LJ McCray set a NCAA Division II record
with 304 kickoff return yards in the loss to Tusculum on Saturday.
The sophomore returned two of his six attempts for touchdowns,
becoming the seventh player to return two kickoffs for a touchdown
in the same game. Both of his scores were in the first half,
covering 99 and 94 yards. The defensive back also had a busy day in
the secondary against the Pioneers, making eight tackles with a
pass break-up and a quarterback pressure.
