WINGATE, N.C. - The No. 10 Wingate Bulldogs season came to an end on Tuesday (May 14) with a 4-3 loss to No. 12 North Georgia in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. The Bulldogs close out the season with a record of 21-2, while North Georgia improves to 21-5. The Nighthawks advance to face Columbus State in the Southeast Regional final.
The Nighthawks took the early 1-0 win after picking up victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. North Georgia extended the lead to 2-0 after a win at NO. 2 singles, but a pair of wins at No. 4 singles and No. 5 singles by Chyi Lee and Claudia De Andreis, respectively, evened the match at two.
Wingate took it's first lead of the match when Camilia Ciaccia was victorious at No. 6 singles, winning 6-2, 6-4. However, the lead was short lived as North Georgia pulled out a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles to tie the match back up, 3-3.
The deciding match of the day came at No. 3 singles where Riann Hsu took a the first set 6-2, lost the second 6-3 and eventually lost eh tiebreaker 6-3 giving the Nighthawks the victory.
This was Wignate's 15th NCAA postseason appearance and their seventh in the last nine years.
