The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Feb. 10
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Tusculum's Jalen Shuffler was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Vince Apicella of Carson-Newman was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 2-8, the League announced today.
Shuffler, a senior from Greeneville, Tenn., hit .500 with five hits, two triples, a double and four RBI to lead the Pioneers to a series sweep of Mars Hill over the weekend. He posted multiple hits in two of the three contests he played in and highlighted his series with two hits, a triple and one home run in a 10-9 win in the series finale on Feb. 7. He slugged 1.300 in the three-game span, to go along with a .500 on-base percentage. In the field, Shuffler notched five putouts and a 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield. The honor is his first Player of the Week nod this season.
Apicella, a junior from Dillsburg, Pa., posted a complete game shutout win over Catawba on Feb. 7. He struck out 13 Catawba Indian hitters in the outing and allowed just three hits.
