ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba forward Kate Weisner has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for games played the first week of the season, the League announced today.
Weisner, a forward from Apex, N.C., posted three goals, including two game-winners to lead the Catawba Indians to a 2-0 record last week. Against Armstrong on Sept. 5, Weisner found the back of the net in the 80th minute as she connected on a shot from the top of the 18 to lift Catawba to the 3-2 win. Two days later against Palm Beach Atlantic, she scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute as she headed in a misplayed ball by the Sailfish keeper. After a Palm Beach Atlantic equalizer, Weisner headed in the game-winner in the 96th minute off a Mary Kirkman cross to give the Catawba Indians the 3-2 OT win. The honor marks her first AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week nod this season.
Also nominated for Women's Soccer Player of the Week: Mariana Poveda (Anderson), Sarah Sager (Newberry), Taylor Lewis (Tusculum) and Brooke Howell (Wingate).
