The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, April 14
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Albert Baur was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Shaefer Shepard from Catawba was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 6-12 the League announced today.
Baur, a senior from Philadelphia, Pa., batted .600 with nine hits, three doubles and two home runs to lead the Wolves to a 4-0 record last week, including a series sweep over League foe Carson-Newman. He posted three multiple hit games and notched a pair of games with three hits. Against USC Aiken on April 7, Baur hit .600 with three hits, a double, a home run and four RBI. He finished the four-game span with a slugging percentage of 1.200, an on-base clip of .667 and six total RBI. The award marks his first Player of the Week selection this season.
Shepard, a sophomore from Boca Raton, Fla., threw a seven-inning complete game win against Mars Hill on April 11. He struck out seven Lion hitters and allowed just one run and only one walk in the contest. The honor is his first Pitcher of the Week nod this season.
