Mars Hill's Schmucker and Wingate's Hathcock Receive South Atlantic Conference BMI Postgraduate Scholarships
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced on Thursday (May 18) that Mars Hill University's Jordan Schmucker and Wingate University's Ethan Hathcock will be the recipients of the Bob McCloskey Insurance (BMI) Postgraduate Scholarships.
"We are excited to have BMI continue to sponsor postgraduate scholarships for our outstanding student-athletes and allow them to further their education," said SAC Commissioner Patrick Britz. "Jordan and Ethan are truly gifted student-athletes, both academically and athletically, and we are honored to be able to reward their hard work and dedication with these scholarships."
Schmucker, a senior volleyball player from Myakka City, Fla., was a third team All-SAC selection in 2022. She led the league with 927 assists while adding 47 kills, 14 service aces, and 355 digs.
A mathematics and statistics major with a 3.98 GPA, Schmucker is a four-time Dean's List honoree, a three-time SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, and she is a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society. Upon graduating, Schmucker plans on continuing her education at Mars Hill, where she will pursue a Master of Education.
Hathcock, a senior from Seymour, Tenn., was a four-year member of the Wingate men's swimming team. He was a five-time NCAA First Team All-American, earning All-American honors in the 200, 400, and 800 freestyle relays, as well as the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
A biology and history double major, Hathcock earned a 3.872 GPA while earning the 2023 SAC Men's Swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and he was a four-time Scholar All-American. The Wingate University Honors Student plans on attending earning his Doctor of Pharmacy upon graduating. He has been accepted to the following schools: the University of Tennessee, Wingate University, East Tennessee State University, and the University of Florida.
The BMI postgraduate scholarships are awarded to SAC student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and have completed their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Both Schmucker and Hathcock will receive a one-time, non-renewable scholarship of $2,125 toward the graduate school of their choice.
