WePlayed Sports Players of the Week - Nov. 10
Football
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Football Players of the Week for games played during week ten of the 2025 season. Mars Hill's JR Martin was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Wingate's Elihu Lipscomb was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Mars Hill's Lon Teachey was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Martin, a graduate student from Suwanee, Ga., went off for the Lions in a 60-19 win over UVA Wise on Saturday. Martin connected on 18 of his 30 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns with a long of 92 yards. On the ground, Martin carried the ball 10 times for 122 yards, averaging over 12 yards per carry. The QB accounted for 456 yards in the contest.
Lipscomb, a freshman from Kings Mountain, N.C., had a huge impact on Wingate's fifth straight victory, scoring two defensive touchdowns in the 56-10 victory at Tusculum, as the Bulldogs pushed the winning streak to five. Lipscomb had four tackles on the night, while notching a pair of scoop and score fumble recoveries, totaling 103 yards of returns. He picked up a fumble and returned it 51 yards for TD early in the third to make it 28-0. Later in the third, his 52-yard scoop and score put Wingate on top 49-0.
Teachey, a senior from Teachy, N.C., set a school record with 16 points in a game and tied a Mars Hill record with a 52-yard field goal in the Lions 60-19 win over UVA Wise. Teachey hit all three of his field goals and went 7-of-7 on extra points. As a punter, he had three punts, all of which landed inside the 20 yard line.

Volleyball
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played during week ten of the 2025 season. Carson-Newman's Blair Cherry was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Wingate's Maddie Hoffman brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Cherry, a junior from Knoxville, Tenn., logged her 16th and 17th game this season with 30+ assists. In the match against LMU with her tenth assist, Blair moved into the top five all-time in career assist leaders at Carson-Newman and is 24th among active DII setters in career assists. She orchestrated an Eagles offense that hit .304 this week, plus she tacked on 11 kills to hit .526 throughout the week herself. For the week, she totaled 80 assists, 11.43 assist/set and added a service ace, 12 digs and two blocks.
Hoffman, a senior from Fenton, Mo., had an incredible match at Tusculum on Friday, needing just 3 sets to pile up 33 digs, going for 11 digs per set while also handing out eight assists on the night. Hoffman was also perfect in serve receive on the evening. The All-American libero leads the SAC and ranks 19th in the nation in digs per set, while also leading the league and ranking 26th in the nation in aces per set.

Men's Soccer
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played during week nine of the 2025 season. Lenoir-Rhyne's Daniel Martinez was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Wingate's Quincy Gibbs brought home Defensive Player of the Week honors. These are the final weekly awards handed out for the 2025 season and only included Wednesday's regular season finale.
Martinez, a senior from Madrid, Spain, netted the game-winning goal in the 84th minute as Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Catawba 2-1 in the regular season finale on Wednesday night. Martinez added an assist on the other goal, giving him a contribution of each of the Bears' tallies on the night.
Gibbs, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., made two saves in a crucial season-ending victory for Wingate over Coker. The win vaulted Wingate from ninth to fifth in the season standings.

Frick, a senior from Eschen, Liechtenstein, had a hat trick as Carson-Newman topped Tusculum 4-0 on Wednesday. It was the first career hat trick for Frick and the first by a Carson-Newman player since 2021.
Parkin, a junior from Huntersville, N.C., led the Cobras to victory in a 1-0 clean sheet over Wingate. The Bulldogs had the majority of the chances in the match, none of which got past Ryan for her second straight clean sheet as she made seven saves.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Swimmers of the Week for meets competed in during the weeks of October 27 - November 9, 2025. Catawba's Maks Minichowski was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week, while Catawba's Marit Reckmann was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Men's Swimmer of the Week – Maks Minichowski, Catawba
(Jr., Lomianki Dolne, Poland)
Minichowski continued his outstanding junior campaign with dominant performances against nationally ranked competition. He posted two individual victories over No. 8 Wingate, winning the 100 Freestyle (44.71) and 200 Freestyle (1:37.19), both the fastest times in the South Atlantic Conference this season. Minichowski's marks currently rank sixth nationally in the 200 Free and 11th in the 100 Free. He added four more event wins in a tri-meet with Milligan and Roanoke, including top SAC and top-15 national times in the 50 Free (20.37) and 100 Breaststroke (54.23). His consistency and versatility continue to pace Catawba's strong early-season form.
Women's Swimmer of the Week – Marit Reckmann, Catawba
(Sr., Nienhagen, Germany)
Reckmann powered the Catawba women to dual-meet victories over both No. 9 Wingate and Milligan with standout efforts in sprint and relay events. Against Wingate, she captured individual wins in the 50 Freestyle (23.23) and 100 Freestyle (51.60) while helping the 400 Medley Relay earn an automatic NCAA qualifying time. Reckmann also contributed to winning relay teams in the 200 and 400 Free Relays at both meets, leading Catawba to sweep Wingate, Milligan, and Roanoke. Her times rank first in the SAC and among the top 15 nationally in both sprint freestyle events.
