Catawba’s Thomas, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Padgett Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Following the opening weekend of South Atlantic Conference baseball action, Catawba College's David Thomas, a 6-0 senior outfielder from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Lenoir-Rhyne's Brandon Padgett, a right-handed freshman pitcher from Statesville, North Carolina have been named SAC Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Thomas earned the Player of the Week honor after helping Catawba sweep conference opponent Newberry College over the weekend. Thomas hit .600 for the series against Newberry in 10 at-bats while recording six hits, five runs batted in and three homeruns to put his team in a tie atop the South Atlantic Conference race at 3-0 with Lenoir-Rhyne College.

Padgett pitched 9.2 innings last week including one inning of shutout baseball against Erskine College in which he recorded two strikeouts, and 8.2 innings of work against Tusculum College in which he gave up no damage while recording four walks and five strikeouts. Padgett's earned run average for the week was an impressive 0.00 as the Bears swept Tusculum to pick up their first wins of the year and to tie with Catawba College at 3-0 following the opening weekend of SAC baseball.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors in the league.
