The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba's Hunter Shepherd was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while Coker's John DeFazio was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week two of the 2020 season, the Conference office announced today.
Shepherd, a senior first baseman and pitcher from Salisbury, N.C., led the Catawba Indians to a 3-0 record last week while getting it done both at the plate and on the mound. He batted .600 with a double, three home runs, five RBIs and seven runs scored. He posted a .692 on-base percentage and had a slugging percentage of 1.600. In addition to his prowess at the plate, Shepherd earned a win on the mound throwing four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
DeFazio, a junior right-handed pitcher from Vienna, Va., earned a complete-game victory on the mound for the Cobras last week over Alderson Broaddus. He went seven innings allowing two unearned runs and five hits, while walking one batter and striking out nine.
This is Shepherd's first Player of the Week honor this season, while this also marks the first Pitcher of the Week for DeFazio.
