KODAK, TENN. - The Wingate Bulldogs scored 13 runs on 12 hits to defeat the Newberry Wolves 13-4 and win the 2021 SAC Pilot Flying J Baseball Championship.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs offensively was Jed Bryant going 2-for-4 with five RBIs and a home run, while Cameron Simpson had a double, a triple, and four RBIs, and McCann Mellet was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Sam Broderson picked up the win going 3.1 innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.
Hunter Dula was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player. The 2021 SAC Pilot Flying J All-Tournament team will be announced on Tuesday (April 26).
With the win, the Bulldogs earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at the end of May.

Kodak, Tenn.----Wingate University redshirt freshman right-hander Austin Mitchell held Carson-Newman University to two runs Monday afternoon as the Bulldogs handed the Eagles their first loss of the SAC Tournament on day five of SAC Tourney action. Wingate prevailed 8-2 to improve to 29-12 overall and advance to the final game of the SAC Tournament Monday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 27-15 overall. READ MORE
