Salisbury, N.C. ---- Lenoir-Rhyne catcher Seth Christmas and Anderson right-handed pitcher Kaleb Owens were named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Southeast Region Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Week Four, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Christmas, a senior catcher from Charlotte, N.C., went 8-for-14 over a 4-0 week for the Bears, highlighted by hitting for the cycle in a win over USC Beaufort. He hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in game one of the weekend series with Carson-Newman and totaled 10 RBI and six extra base hits. For the week, he posted a 1.500 slugging percentage and crossed the plate seven times.
Owens, a sophomore from Easley, S.C., was dominant in his seven innings against Tusculum on Feb. 20. In the 6-0 win, Owens allowed just two baserunners – both hits – with 10 strikeouts. He posted a 0.00 ERA and 0.29 WHIP to earn the victory on the mound.
Christmas and Owens will advance to NCBWA National Player and Pitcher of the Week consideration, which is released on Thursday.
