Catawba and Wingate Earn Bids to NCAA Baseball Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The Catawba Indians and Wingate Bulldogs were announced as part of the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament field as released by the NCAA tonight. Catawba earned the No. 2 seed and the right to host while Wingate slotted in as the third seed.
Catawba will host after posting a 42-11 record and a SAC Regular Season crown. Catawba will host the No. 7 seeded Belmont Abbey Crusaders out of Conference Carolinas in the first round.
Wingate, who took down Catawba 2-1 in the SAC Tournament Championship, jumped up to the No. 3 seed. They will travel to Catawba to take on Young Harris in the opening round.
The championship provides for eight regional sites hosting three teams and eight regional sites hosting four teams, for a total of 16 regional sites. All regionals are double-elimination tournaments and will be played May 14-16. Regional winners will advance to the best-of-three super-regional competition May 21-23. Super Regional winners will advance to the double-elimination championship finals May 29- June 6 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The finals will be hosted by the University of Mount Olive and Cary.
