Tusculum’s Colclough Named AFCA All-American
WACO, Texas --- Tusculum College's Ricardo Colclough has been named to the 2003 AFCA Division II Coaches' All-America Team announced Wednesday by the American Football Coaches Association. Colclough, a 6-0, 180-pound defensive back from Sumter, S.C., becomes the sixth gridder in Tusculum history to earn All-American distinction.
Colclough, a senior defensive back and return specialist from Sumter, S.C., ranked nationally in interceptions, passes defended, punt returns and kickoff returns and helped lead Tusculum to a 9-2 record and its first-ever South Atlantic Conference championship. He has 11 interceptions, 24 passes defended and 59 tackles on defense and has averaged 14.2 yards on punt returns and a school record 29.1 yards on kickoff returns.
Colclough was one of the eight national finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy, recognizing the NCAA Division II Player of the Year. He was also named SAC Defensive Player of the Year and was a First Team All-Conference selection at both defensive back and return specialist.
Colclough has been heavily scouted by several professional teams and is considered to be one of the top cornerbacks to be picked in this April's NFL Draft. According to ESPN's Mel Kiper, Jr., Colclough is listed No. 19 amongst the top 25 senior prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft and is the only Division II player in that group.
The AFCA Division II Coaches' All-American Team is made up of players from NCAA Division II and NAIA institutions.
