Carson-Newman’s Bolden Named D2Football.com Defensive Player of the Week
FLORENCE, Ala.- D2football.com has announced their national players of the week and Carson-Newman defensive back Deonte Bolden (St. Petersburg, Fla.) has been named one of three defensive Players of the Week. Bolden shares the honor with Mansfield's Dan Holland and Courtney Wright of North Alabama.
Bolden, who was also named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, had a huge day against Newberry last Saturday.
Bolden intercepted four passes in the Eagles' 35-18 win at Newberry. The four picks is a new school record. He had an interception at the C-N 18 yard line as the Indians were driving for a possible-go-ahead touchdown in the first quarter. Bolden's second pick came at the Indian 38 yard line which the Eagles turned into a touchdown a few plays later to make it 21-6. The third interception was at the C-N one yard line to thwart another Newberry scoring opportunity. The fourth and final interception came in the fourth quarter. For the season, Bolden has six interceptions for 118 yards.
The third-ranked Eagles host Presbyterian for Homecoming on Oct.
18 at 3 p.m.
