Colclough Named Football Gazette National Special Teams Player of the Week
WESTMONT, Ill. --- The honors continue to roll in for Tusculum College's Ricardo Colclough. Colclough has been named Division II National Special Teams Player of the Week by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette.
The Sumter, S.C. native had a record-breaking day in the Pioneers' 65-10 win over Morehouse College on Saturday. The senior defensive back returned a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns including a school-record 97-yarder. In the game, Colclough established TC marks in longest kickoff return, kickoff return yardage (189) and most kickoff returns for touchdowns in a game (2). He opened the second half with a 92-yard return for touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Sumter High School graduate picked off a pair of passes and made a touchdown saving pass break-up. His two picks ties the school single-game record held by five others, including himself. He intercepted Morehouse quarterbacks twice in last year's meeting in Atlanta.
This week, Colclough was also named National Special Teams Player of the Week by D2Football.com and South Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. He is leading NCAA Division II in kickoff returns averaging 55.2 yards per attempt. He is also eighth in the nation in interceptions (3) and 14th in the land in passes defended averaging 2.3 per outing.
The 2002 All-Conference selection has posted seven interceptions in his 12-game career at Tusculum, which is tied for second in school history.
The Pioneers (2-1) are off this week as they prepare for their
Sept. 27 non-conference contest at NCAA I-AA Charleston Southern
University.
