Carson-Newman’s Weaver, Perkins Named to D2Football.com All-American Team
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Two members of the Carson-Newman Eagles football team have been named to the D2Football.com All-American team.
Senior tight end Leonard Weaver (Melbourne, Fla.) was a first team All-American selection. Weaver was the leading receiver on the Eagles team during the 2004 season as he caught 27 passes for 571 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns. He averaged 21.1 yards per reception and averaged 51.9 receiving yards per game. Weaver was the starter in every game in 2004 and was part of an Eagles offense that averaged over 493 yards per game, including 336.8 rushing yards per game. Weaver was also named to All-American teams by the Associated Press and American Football Coaches Association.
Senior offensive lineman Reggie Perkins (Rome, Ga.) was a second-team All-American selection. Perkins, a three-time All-American selection during his career, was one of the anchors on the Eagles offensive line which was among the national leaders in rushing offense and total offense in 2005.
The Carson-Newman Eagles were 9-3 in 2004 and won the South
Atlantic Conference championship, the 18th time in school history
C-N has claimed the conference crown. The Eagles advanced to the
second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament where they lost to
eventual national champion Valdosta State.
