SAC Names Jack Childress Coordinator Of Football Officials
ROCK HILL, S.C. - South Atlantic Conference Commissioner Patrick Britz has announced the hiring of Jack Childress to serve as the league's coordinator of football officials.
Childress brings 17 years of college football officiating to the position, having worked in the South Atlantic Conference (1993-95), Southern Conference (1996-97) and, for the last 13 years, as an official in the Atlantic Coast Conference (1997-2009). He also has 30 years of experience officiating high school games in North and South Carolina.
"We are excited to have someone with Jack's credentials serve as our coordinator of football officials," Britz said. "His wealth of knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset and will benefit both our officials and football programs."
During his career, Childress has worked some of the nation's biggest college games, including two ACC Championship games, two Rose Bowls, the Orange Bowl, numerous other college bowl games, the Kickoff Classic, and a Division II national semifinal game. In addition, he has worked the North Carolina/South Carolina High School Shrine Bowl and 12 South Carolina high school state championship games.

collegiate athletics," Childress said. "I am thrilled to have this
opportunity to work with our officiating staff, as well as our
coaches and athletic directors. I look forward to the upcoming
football season."
He has served as District Director for the South Carolina Football Officials Association, and served as president of the SCFOA. He is on the Board of Directors for the ACC Football Officials Association, is a past member of Referee Magazine editorial staff and is a member of the Mount Airy, N.C., Hall of Fame; Surry County, N.C., Hall of Fame; and South Carolina Football Officials Association Hall of Fame.
Childress will be responsible for recruiting and training football officials for the South Atlantic Conference. Other duties include assigning and evaluating officials, rules applications, and holding clinics.
Childress lives in Greenwood, S.C, where he is chief operating officer, co-owner and co-founder of Loom Craft, Inc. He graduated from Duke University, where he played football for four years.
The South Atlantic Conference sponsors 14 sports and is based in Rock Hill, S.C. Member schools include Brevard College in Brevard, N.C.; Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN; Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C.; Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C.; Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN; Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, N.C.; Newberry College in Newberry, S.C.; Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN; and Wingate University in Wingate, N.C. On July 1, Anderson University in Anderson, S.C. will join the league.
