Game Notes: Newberry is coming off a 63-56 victory
over Tusculum, where the Wolves rolled up 515 passing yards last
week. Brandon Bostick caught 11 passes for a SAC, South Carolina
and Newberry record 322 yards with touchdowns of 36, 71 and 50
yards. Quarterback Bryan Ehrlich completed 23 of 40 passes for 515
yards and seven touchdowns, and also rushed for one touchdown. He
broke the school and SAC records for passing touchdowns and tied
the state record. He also broke the school, SAC and state records
for touchdown responsibility and the school record for passing
yardage. The Mars Hill offense is led by returning SAC Co-Offensive
Player of the Year Jonas Randolph. The All-American has carried the
ball 123 times for 562 yards and 5 touchdowns this season.
Quarterback Jon Richt has completed 45.9 percent of his passes for
1,284 yards with 13 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. P.J. Gore is
his favorite target with 23 catches for 609 yards and 6 touchdowns.
SAC Defensive Player of the Week Rudy Cabral had 19 tackles in last
week's win over Lenoir-Rhyne and leads the Lions with 63 total
stops. Maurice Harris leads the league with 10 sacks.

Game Notes: Wingate redshirt sophomore safety
Robert Fletcher recovered a fumble in overtime, giving Wingate its
first-ever triumph over Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, 38-35 last
week. Wingate quarterback Cody Haffly completed 20-of-32 passes for
career-high 412 yards and five touchdowns. Perry Floyd led the
receiving corps with six catches for 182 yards and two touchdowns.
Delric Ellington also had six receptions for 96 yards and two
touchdowns. Floyd set a school record with 301 all-purpose yards.
The Wingate University football team has played the second-toughest
schedule in the NCAA Division II. Wingate's opponents are 27-15
overall (.643 winning percentage). Only Washburn (Kan.) University
outranks Wingate. Tusculum is coming off its 63-56 loss to Newberry
last week. This week will pit the top two quarterbacks in the
conference in Tusculum's Bo Cordell and Cody Haffly of Wingate.
Cordell leads the nation in passing (418.3 ypg), while Haffley is
second in the SAC averaging 310.8 ypg (11th in NCAA II). Wingate
has won five of the last six meetings. And four of the last six
meetings have been decided by five points or less. Tusculum junior
Deonte' Gist leads the league in receptions, averaging 8.33 catches
per game (8th in NCAA II). He is also fifth in the SAC in receiving
yards per game, averaging 107 ypg.

Game Notes: Catawba scored the final 18 points to
rally past visiting Brevard for a 1-21 victory last week. Josh
Wright scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, while the defense held
the Tornados to 73 yards in the second half. Alex Hartsell made
five tackles with a sack and another tackle for loss against
Brevard, while junior linebacker Jeb Bass posted a career-high 12
tackles with one for a loss. Catawba leads the SAC in scoring
defense (19.6 points per game) and rushing defense (81.4 yards per
game). Carson-Newman is averaging 283.7 yards rushing per game. The
Eagles are coming off a 38-25 overtime loss at home to Wingate. The
Eagles committed two turnovers and 12 penalties, including two that
negated interceptions, in that contest. The Eagles also two missed
field goals. Nate Inman rushed for a career-high 214 yards and
three touchdowns last week against Wingate. Catawba leads the SAC
in turnover margin at +7.

Game Notes: Brevard (320.7 ypg) and Lenoir-Rhyne
(311.5 ypg) are ranked first and second in NCAA Division II in
rushing. The two squads were also ranked one and two in rushing
nationally when they faced each other last year. Brevard's Kelvin
Jeter leads the SAC in rushing yards per game (110.7), but was held
to just 17 yards last week at Catawba. Brevard is coming off a
31-21 loss at Catawba. Brevard led 21-13 in that game before
Catawba rallied. Lenoir-Rhyne is coming off a 24-20 loss at Mars
Hill, where the Lions scored the winning touchdown with 37 seconds
left. Lenoir-Rhyne senior running back Gaston Miller is first in
the league in rushing yards per attempt (12.9) while junior
quarterback Major Herron leads the conference in rushing touchdowns
(nine). Lenoir-Rhyne has lost its three games this season by a
combined 11 points. Lenoir-Rhyne is first in the SAC in total
defense, giving up 284 yards per game. Lenoir-Rhyne has held its
opponent under 300 yards of offense for four straight games.
Brevard averages 387.5 yards of offense per game.
