Newberry’s Bostick, Ehrlich Named National Players Of The Week

LIBERTY, Mo. - Newberry College wide receiver Brandon Bostick and quarterback Bryan Ehrlich have been named the National Offensive Players of the Week by D2Football.com after their brilliant performances in the Wolves' 63-56 win over then-No. 23 Tusculum last Saturday. The duo earned South Atlantic Conference Offensive Players of the Week honors earlier this week.

The honor is the first time a Newberry player has been named the national offensive player of the week since Josh Stepp earned that accolade after a record-breaking performance at Catawba in 2005. Most of Stepp's records from that day fell at Tusculum last weekend. Newberry's last national player of the week in any category came at Tusculum as well, when Derrell Mills earned national defensive player of the week honors in 2006 after his 40-yard strip-and-return touchdown, 16 tackles and an interception preserved the Indians' undefeated season.

Bostick established a new record for receiving yards in a game for the South Atlantic Conference, Newberry College and the state of South Carolina, catching 11 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns of 37, 71 and 50 yards. He averaged 29.3 yards per completion, with nine of his 11 catches resulting in Newberry first downs. This feat is even more impressive considering he caught a batted ball behind the line of scrimmage for minus-6 yards. The performance ranks eighth in the history of Division II football, just one yard behind the seventh-best game. His game breaks the previous SAC and state record of 275 yards set by Presbyterian's D.J. Humphries against West Georgia in 2001, as well as the previous Newberry College record of 200 yards set by Derrick Higgins against North Greenville in 2003.

Ehrlich set the conference and school records for touchdown passes and touchdown responsibility while setting a Newberry record for passing yardage. He went 23-of-40 for 515 yards and seven touchdowns of 37, 71, 36, 36, 2, 50 and 11 yards. He also rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, making him responsible for eight total touchdowns in the game. His 515-yard performance breaks the previous Newberry record of 448 yards set by Eric McCollom at Tusculum in 2008 and is third in state history behind Presbyterian's Tim Webb, who threw for 648 yards against North Greenville in 2007. Presbyterian's Todd Cunningham, who had 542 yards against Tusculum in 2001, set the SAC record and ranks second in state history. Ehrlich's performance ranks third in the SAC record books. Ehrlich averaged 22.4 yards per completion in the game. He now has 20 touchdown passes on the season and in his career, which ties him for third most in a single season and seventh most in a career at Newberry College.

Eastern New Mexico's Tillman Stevens nabbed three interceptions and had 10 tackles in the Greyhounds' 49-31 win over Central Oklahoma to earn national defensive player of the week honors this week, while Washburn's Steven Ivanisevic contributed 16 points in the Ichabods' 40-28 win over Nebraska-Omaha on field goals of 48, 49, 39 and 33 yards and four PATs to earn national special teams player of the week honors.
