Game Notes: Mars Hill and Carson-Newman meet on
live regional television. Mars Hill leads the conference standings
with a 3-0 record, but four schools, including Carson-Newman, are
in the hunt with 2-1 records. Carson-Newman is coming off a 42-16
victory over Catawba last week. Mars Hill defeated Newberry 48-36.
Mars Hill quarterback Jon Richt set a new school record for most
passing yards in a single game with 330. Jonas Randolph set a new
school record for most career all-purpose touchdowns with 30.
Randolph rushed for 183 yards and two scores and was named the SAC
Offensive Player of the Week. The C-N rushing attack piled up more
than 300 yards for the fifth time this season with a 310-yard
performance. Carson-Newman junior running back Nate Inman rushed
for 162 yards and a touchdown against Catawba. Inman is leading the
conference, averaging 110 yards per game. Randolph is second with
106.4 yards per game. Defensively, the Lions are led by sophomore
linebacker Rudy Cabral and senior defensive end Maurice Harris, a
preseason first team All-SAC selection. Cabral leads the conference
in tackles this season with 69, while Harris has recorded 51 stops
and is leading the SAC in tackles for loss (15) and sacks (11).
Mars Hill's last series win was a 14-7 victory at home in 2005.
