SAC Announces Week One Football Awards
With week one of the 2012 SAC football season in the books, Carson-Newman’s Brandon Baker and Newberry’s Apollo Stretch and JoJo Morris have earned the conference’s weekly awards, it was announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – With week one of the 2012 SAC football season in the books, Carson-Newman's Brandon Baker and Newberry's Apollo Stretch and JoJo Morris have earned the conference's weekly awards, it was announced on Tuesday.
Baker was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 219 yards on 17 carries in Carson-Newman's 56-46 victory over Glenville St. His 219 yards were the third-most in Division II in the season's opening week.
Baker also scored three touchdowns -- including a 61-yarder – while averaging more than 12 yards-per-carry.

Stretch, the SAC Defensive Player of the Week, helped Newberry open its season with an impressive 46-20 win over Elizabeth City St. by recording 12 tackles and recovering a fumble.
Led by Stretch, the Wolves' defense forced four turnovers.
Morris was selected as the league's Special Teams Player of the Week after averaging 47.8 yards on four punts, including two inside the 20 and two of 50-plus yards.
Morris' strong day helped limit ECSU's average starting field position to its own 25 yard line.
