ROCK HILL, S.C. – After each picking up victories last weekend, Mars Hill, Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne have earned spots in this week's NCAA football Super Region II rankings, the association has announced.
Mars Hill is the highest-ranked SAC team, checking in at No. 4 in the regional poll. The Lions, who survived an upset bid against Tusculum last Saturday, are 6-3 overall – with two of the losses coming against Division I opponents.
MHC currently leads the SAC in total offense and ranks second in total defense.
Just behind Mars Hill in this week's Super Region II poll are No. 5 Carson-Newman and No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne. C-N has won four-straight games and L-R has won five in a row.
Both schools are 6-2 overall this season. Lenoir-Rhyne is 4-1 in conference play, while Carson-Newman is 3-2.
L-R and C-N have been the nation's top two rushing offenses so far in 2012, with the Bears averaging a Division II-best 367 yards per game on the ground and the Eagles just behind them at 341.6 yards per game.
The regional rankings are voted on by the NCAA Division II Football Committee. The polls serve as the official rankings used in the Division II Football Championship selection process.
