INDIANAPOLIS – Less than a week before NCAA Division II Football Championship selections, Mars Hill, Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne remain ranked in the latest NCAA Super Region II poll, the association has announced.
Mars Hill, which was idle this past Saturday, moved up a spot from last week to No. 3 in the region. The Lions are 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Two of MHC's losses came against Division I opponents earlier this season.
Mars Hill can clinch at least a share of the conference title on Saturday with a win at Carson-Newman.
Carson-Newman also climbed one spot in the regional poll this week, checking in at No. 4. The Eagles, winners of five-straight, are 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the SAC.
C-N, which features the nation's No. 2 rushing offense, also cracked the AFCA national rankings this week for the first time this season at No. 24. The Eagles can earn a share of the conference title with a victory over Mars Hill and a Lenoir-Rhyne loss on Saturday.
Finally, Lenoir-Rhyne stayed at No. 6 in this week's regional rakings after a 44-21 win at Newberry last weekend. The victory was the Bears' sixth in a row after opening the season 1-2.
Led by Division II's top rushing offense, Lenoir-Rhyne has outscored its opponents by 174 points in 2012, the best scoring margin in the conference.
A win against Catawba on Saturday would clinch at least a share of the SAC title for Lenoir-Rhyne.
