15 SAC Football Players Selected to Capital One Academic All-District Team
15 football student-athletes from the SAC have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, accounting for more than half of the Super Region II selections, it was announced on Thursday.
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – 15 football student-athletes from the SAC have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, accounting for more than half of the Super Region II selections, it was announced on Thursday.
The Capital One Academic All-America program honors nearly 2,000 student-athletes at the national level and 4,000 student-athletes at the district level annually for their all-around accomplishments in the classroom, in the community and in competition.
Wingate had the most Capital One Academic All-District selections of any team in Super Region II with six. The Bulldogs were represented on the team by quarterback Robbie Nallenweg, a biology major, running back Andrew Nallenweg, a biology major, offensive lineman Will Poteat, an accounting major, defensive back Timmy Rogers, a marketing major, defensive lineman Nick Napolitano, a marketing major, and punter Austin Anthony, a finance major.
Lenoir-Rhyne and Newberry each had three student-athletes selected to the team. Earning selections from L-R were running back Graham Duncan, an accounting major, offensive lineman Parker Murray, a middle grades and religious studies major, and defensive back Joe Anderson, a marketing major.
Newberry, meanwhile, was represented by offensive lineman Lequawn James, a nursing major, defensive lineman Ben Trotter, a business administration major, and linebacker A.J. Booker, whose major is undecided.
Catawba, Carson-Newman and Tusculum each placed one student-athlete on the Capital One Academic All-District Team. Tight end Vincent Beam -- a physical education major -- represented Catawba on the team, while kicker Curt Duncan -- an English major -- represented Carson-Newman. Linebacker Chaz Story, a political sciences major, was Tusculum's selection.
Each of the SAC's 15 selections are now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America Team, which will be announced later this fall. More information on the program can be found at www.CapitalOneAcademicAllAmerica.com.
