Wingate Sweeps Final SAC Football Weekly Awards
Three student-athletes from Wingate have been selected as the final SAC Football Players of the Week of the 2012 season, the conference office announced Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Three student-athletes from Wingate have been selected as the final SAC Football Players of the Week of the 2012 season, the conference office announced Monday.
Quarterback Robbie Nallenweg was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 316 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday in a 42-17 win over Tusculum. His touchdown passes went for eight, 41 and 47 yards.
Nallenweg finished the 2012 season with 3,644 yards and 29 touchdowns, both of which were SAC highs. As of this week, he ranked fifth in Division II in passing yards.
WU defensive lineman Ernest Bridges earned the SAC Defensive Player of the Week award following an 11-tackle, 3.5-sack performance against Tusculum. Overall, the Bulldogs sacked Pioneer quarterback Bo Cordell eight times.
Bridges recorded 11 tackles in the game, including five for-loss. He finished the season with 34 tackles.
Finally, Wingate punter Austin Anthony was picked as the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week. The sophomore booted four punts on Saturday, averaging 41.8 yards. He also downed one of the kicks inside the TC 20.
This season, Anthony averaged 38.3 yards on 41 punts and pinned seven inside the opponent's 20.
