TC’s Cordell, C-N’s Coleman and Duncan Named SAC Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell, Carson-Newman linebacker Jaycob Coleman and C-N kicker Curt Duncan were selected as the SAC Football Players of the Week for games played Sept. 12th and 14th, the league office announced Monday morning.

SAC Offense Player of the Week | Bo Cordell, Tusculum QB

Cordell had a historic day in Tusculum's 54-41 win over Elizabeth City St., breaking the all-time Division II record for completions with 1,140 after going 31-for-42. He also set SAC and TC single-game records by finishing with 596 passing yards and 612 total yards.

Cordell threw for four touchdowns and ran for another. Two of his touchdowns went for 80-plus yards, including a school-record 88-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Diliberto in the third quarter.

Cordell leads the nation in passer efficiency at 247.7 and ranks fourth in passing yards with 778.

SAC Defensive Player of the Week | Jaycob Coleman, Carson-Newman LB

Coleman finished with a team-high and career-best 12 tackles in Carson-Newman's 27-24 win at Colorado School of Mines on Saturday. The senior linebacker's efforts were vital helping the Eagles slow down a Mines offense that had scored 72 points and piled up 727 yards of total offense the week prior.

Coleman's 17 tackles currently rank sixth in the conference this season, and his 10 solo spots rank fourth.

SAC Special Teams Player of the Week | Curt Duncan, Carson-Newman PK/P

Duncan accounted for nine Carson-Newman points on Saturday at Mines, connecting on 2-of-3 field goals and making all three extra points. Duncan's field goals came from 26 and 38 yards out, while his only miss was a 56-yard attempt that hit the upright.

The senior also punted for the Eagles, averaging 49 yards on three kicks, including one inside the 20. He leads all SAC kickers this season with 16 points.
