ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne quarterback Miles Freeman, L-R defensive back Joe Anderson and Newberry kicker Kyle Clark have been voted as the SAC Football Players of the Week after helping lead their teams to conference wins on Saturday.
SAC Offensive Player of the Week | Miles Freeman, Lenoir-Rhyne QB
Freeman rushed for a game-high 179 yards in Lenoir-Rhyne's 34-13 victory over Wingate, including a 56-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter. The junior averaged 11.2 yards-per-rush, pacing an L-R offensive attack that piled up 422 yards on the ground.
Freeman currently ranks second in the SAC in rushing – and first among quarterbacks - at 125.3 yards per game. His 7.1 yards-per-carry average ranks fourth in the league.
SAC Defensive Player of the Week | Joe Anderson, Lenoir-Rhyne LB
Anderson equaled the game-high with 13 tackles – seven of which were solos - in L-R's strong defensive performance against Wingate. The defensive back also recorded a sack for the Bears, who allowed WU to rush for just nine yards in the game.
Anderson ranks sixth in the conference with 27 tackles this season and is the only player in the league to have both a sack and an interception.
SAC Special Teams Player of the Week | Kyle Clark, Newberry PK/P
Despite sloppy field conditions, Clark connected on 2-of-3 field goals and all three extra point attempts on Saturday in Newberry's 27-0 shutout of Catawba. He made field goals of 21 and 24 yards, and his only miss was blocked.
Clark also punted six times for the Wolves, averaging 42 yards per kick. Catawba was able to return only two of his punts for a total of negative-1 yard. The sophomore's average of 36.7 yards-per-punt currently ranks third in the conference.
