Tusculum’s Cordell, Wingate’s Nallenweg Named Harlon Hill Trophy Candidates
Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell and Wingate quarterback Robbie Nallenweg have been selected as candidates for the 2013 Harlon Hill Trophy, which recognizes Division II football’s player of the year.
FLORENCE, Ala. – Tusculum quarterback Bo Cordell and Wingate quarterback Robbie Nallenweg have been selected as candidates for the 2013 Harlon Hill Trophy, which recognizes Division II football's player of the year.
Cordell and Nallenweg are two of seven candidates from Super Region II and are among 28 nationwide. Two finalists from each region will be named before the winner is announced on Dec. 20 in conjunction with the NCAA national championship game in Florence, Ala.
Cordell currently leads the SAC and ranks fourth in the nation with 3,351 passing yards this season. On Oct. 26, he became Division II's all-time leader in passing yards, exceeding the former record of 14,733 yards by West Liberty's Zach Amedro. The graduate student is also the SAC's career leader total offense.
Cordell is tied for the conference lead with 20 touchdowns in 2013, while ranking third in completion percentage at 63.2-percent.
Nallenweg, meanwhile, is third in the nation with a 70.7-percent completion percentage and fifth in completions per game with an average of 27.67. He is second in the SAC with 2,579 yards and joins Cordell atop the league leaderboard with 20 touchdowns.
Nallenweg has five 300-plus yard games this season, including a 460-yard performance last week at Mars Hill.
Cordell and Nallenweg bring the SAC's all-time total of Harlon Hill Trophy candidates to 24. Former Wingate receiver Chris Bowden was a finalist last year, while former Mars Hill running back Jonas Randolph won the award in 2011.
