The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week, Nov. 3
No. 4 Lenior-Rhyne running back Chris Robinson was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Bears’ linebacker Tyler Botts was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Mars Hill punter Michael Ashley picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week for games played the ninth week of the season. No. 4 Lenior-Rhyne running back Chris Robinson was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Bears' linebacker Tyler Botts was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Mars Hill punter Michael Ashley picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Robinson, a senior from Newnan, Ga., rushed for 178 yards and one touchdown in Lenoir-Rhyne's 35-32 win over Carson-Newman on Nov. 1. The win clinched the Bears at least a share of their fourth-straight South Atlantic Conference Championship. Robinson averaged 8.9 yards per touch and broke off a long run of 40 yards. His 25 yard rush late in the fourth quarter gave the Bears a first down and allowed Lenoir-Rhyne to run out the clock deep in Carson-Newman territory. The honor marks his first Offensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Botts, a senior from Lawrenceville, Ga., posted 13 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a pair of tackles for loss in the win over Carson-Newman. His second forced fumble halted an Eagle drive in the fourth quarter. He finish the contest with 10 solo tackles. The award marks his first Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Ashley, a junior from Manteo, N.C., posted six punts for 234 yards in Mars Hill's 35-7 win over Catawba on Nov. 2. He posted one punt inside the 20 yard line and forced three Catawba fair catches. Ashley averaged 39 yards per boot and recorded a long punt of 58 yards. The award is his first Special Teams Player of the Week selection this season.
Also nominated for Offensive Player of the Week: Kelvin Jeter (Brevard), Foluke Gordon-Lamar (Mars Hill), Romelo Doctor (Newberry) and Kyle Dickey (Tusculum).
Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Michael Gruber (Brevard), Chris Daniels (Mars Hill), Jaquille Oden (Newberry) and Caushaud Lyons (Tusculum).
