The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week, Sept. 21
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week for games the third week of the season. Lenoir-Rhyne quarterback Evin Sims was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while the Bears' defensive back Kyle Dugger was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Wingate return-man Jody Fuller picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Sims, a sophomore from Greenwood, S.C., ran for 252 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bears to a 55-52 triple overtime win over Tusculum on Sept. 19. He carried the ball 29 times, posted a long run of 53 yards and recorded an average carry of 8.7 yards per rush. He directed the Lenoir-Rhyne spread option to 591 rushing yards in the contest to give the Bears their 21st-straight South Atlantic Conference win. The honor marks his second Offensive Player of the Week selection this season.
Duggar, a freshman from Fayetteville, Ga., came up with a pair of huge fumble recoveries for the Bears in the win over Tusculum. His first recovery came on a scoop and score as he returned the ball 45 yards to push Lenoir-Rhyne's lead to 38-23. He later recovered a Pioneer fumble in the third overtime to seal the win for the Cardinal and Black. Duggar finished the contest with eight total tackles to go along with one forced fumble, an interception and a pass break-up. The award is his first Defensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Fuller, a junior from Indian Trail, N.C., made Wingate's only kick return opportunity a big one as he returned the ball 82 yards for a score. The touchdown pushed the Bulldogs' lead to 30-0 as Wingate went on to the 37-0 win over Brevard on Sept. 19.
