South Atlantic Conference Announces Football Players of the Week, Sept. 19 (Watch)

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf  SAC Football Players of the Week for games played the third week of the season.  Newberry quarterback Raleigh Yeldell was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Catawba defensive back Case Woodard was named the Defensive Player of the Week.  Meanwhile, Catawba kicker Brennan Lambert picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Yeldell, a senior from Edgefield, S.C., rushed for a career-best 141 yards and posted three scores to go along with 215 yards through the air and one touchdown strike to lead the Wolves to a 29-28 win on the road against North Greenville on Sept. 17.  He carried the ball 20 times for Newberry to post 7.1 yards per carry, including a long of 52 yards.  In the air, he connected on 21-of-38 throws.  He came up big late in the game as he broke a pair of tackles to score the game-winning touchdown with 1:04 left to play.  The award is his second Offensive Player of the Week selection this season.

Woodard, a senior from Snellville, Ga., turned the tide in the Catawba Indians' favor early in the second quarter as he picked off a Carson-Newman pass and took it to the house to give Catawba a 14-10 advantage and lift the Catawba Indians to a 40-20 win on Sept. 17.  He followed that effort with a blocked punt on Carson-Newman's next possession to set up Catawba field goal.  Woodard also chipped in five solo tackles in the win.  The honor is his first Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.

Lambert, a freshman from China Grove, N.C., came up big for the Catawba Indians with four field goals and four extra points to finish with 16 points in the win over the Eagles.  He was perfect on each of his kicks as he converted kicks of 27, 20, 35 and 35 yards.  His four field goals marked the most for a Catawba kicker since the 2002 season.  The honor is his first Special teams Player of the Week award this season.
