The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Football Players of the Week, Oct. 2 | WATCH
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week for games the fourth week of the season. Limestone wide out D'Anta Fleming was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Carson-Newman defensive lineman Montel Presley was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Saints' kicker Nick Smith picked up Special Teams Player of the Week.
Fleming a senior from Greer, S.C., became the first player in Limestone history to record more than 200 yard receiving as he hauled in eight balls for 218 yards and four scores in a 56-49 double overtime win over Mars Hill on Sept. 30. He averaged 27.3 yards per catch and caught the game-tying touchdowns in the fourth quarter and overtime period. Fleming's longest catch of the day was an 84 yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. His honor marks Limestone's first-ever Offensive Player of the Week selection.
Presley, a sophomore from Bushnell, Fla., recorded career-bests with nine tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss to go along with a sack in a 31-18 win over then No. 23 Catawba on Sept. 30. His sack put the Catawba Indians in a 17 yard hole, while his tackles for loss backed Catawba up 20 yards. Presley fueled an Eagle defense that held the League's top rated offense to 120 yards and 21 points below its season averages. The award marks his first Defensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Smith, a senior from Plain City, Ohio, connected on 6-of-6 point after touchdowns and nailed a pair of field goals in Limestone's win over Mars Hill. He connected on a 53-yard kick and added another field goal of 30 yards. Smith finished the contest with 12 points and has now connected on a pair of field goals of more than 50 yards this season. His honor marks Limestone's first-ever Special Teams Player of the Week plaudit.
