Nineteen SAC Football Players Receive D2CCA All-Super Region 2 Honors, Lenoir-Rhyne's Artis Named Defensive Player of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Super Region 2 Football Teams were announced on Friday (Dec. 6) with 19 South Atlantic Conference players earning All-Region honors.
Leading the way was Lenoir-Rhyne with seven selections, including Super Region 2 Defensive Player of the Year Jaquan Artis. A finalist for the 2019 Harlon Hill Award, Artis has logged a team-best 79 tackles, including 45 solo tackles and 23 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks. The 2019 SAC Defensive Player of the Year is also a finalist for the prestigious Gene Upshaw Award. Joining Artis were first team selections; Jason Poe (OL), Clayton Horn (LB), and Kyle Dugger (S).
Carson-Newman placed six players on the all-region teams, including first team selections Antonio Wimbush (RB), Phillip McDowell (OL), Rondrow Peebles (LB), and Desmond Fairell (CB).
Wingate had four all-region selections including first team pick McLean Robertson (K).
Mars Hill wide receiver Craig Rucker was a first team honoree and Tusculum cornerback Dee Alford rounded out the first team selections for the SAC.
