The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Football Players of the Week for games played during the seventh week of the 2021 season.  Lenoir-Rhyne running back Dwayne McGee was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Mars Hill defensive back Tristan Rankin was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Newberry return man Brentley Allen picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

McGee, a freshman from Kissimmee, Fla., tied a Lenoir-Rhyne record with five rushing touchdowns in the Bears' 59-0 win over Carson-Newman. He also ran for 200 yards on 19 carries and had two catches for 15 yards, giving him 215 yards of total offense. McGee is now one of just three players in Lenoir-Rhyne history with five touchdowns in a single game and is the first player to ever rush for five touchdowns against Carson-Newman.

Rankin, a sophomore from Hickory, N.C., tied a Mars Hill record with three interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown in the Lions' 32-3 win over Limestone. In addition to his three interceptions, Rankin added five tackles and one pass breakup.

Allen, a graduate student from Lexington, S.C., had three punt returns for 34 yards, including a 19-yard return the set up the Wolves' game-winning touchdown against Catawba. He also added a reception for 31 yards to finish the day with 65 all-purpose yards.
