The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Football Players of the Week for games played during the ninth week of the 2021 season.  Mars Hill tight end Ty Snelson was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne linebacker Jon Ross Maye was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Newberry kicker Ray Cotton picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Snelson, a senior from Hot Springs, N.C., led the Lions to a 49-23 SAC win over Carson-Newman last week. He hauled in four catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 30.3 yards per catch in the win.

Maye, a freshman from Johns Creek, Ga., had five tackles, a pass break-up, and an interception for a touchdown in the Bears' 31-6 win over No. 16 Wingate last week. His interception sealed the victory for Lenoir-Rhyne in the fourth quarter as he deflected a pass and then caught it himself, taking it 50 yards for the touchdown.

Cotton, a junior from Summerville, S.C., accounted for 12 of the Wolves' 48 points in Newberry's 48-10 win over Erskine last week. He was perfect on his kicks, going 2-for-2 on field goals, including a 41-yard field goal, and he was 6-for-6 on extra-point attempts.
