The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Football Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Football Players of the Week for games played during week four of the 2023 season. Tusculum quarterback Matthew Palazzo was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Tusculum linebacker Wesley Scott was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Mars Hill kicker Lon Teachey picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Palazzo, a sophomore from Greeneville, Tenn., led the Pioneers to a 35-21 win over Catawba last week. He threw for 226 yards, going 23-for-33 (69.7 percent) with two touchdowns. He also rushed for 56 yards and two more touchdowns, finishing the game with 282 total yards of offense and four touchdowns.
Scott, a junior from Hobe Sound, Fla., recorded a season-high 13 tackles including three for loss and two sacks in Tusculum's win over Catawba. He also forced a fumble and returned another fumble for six yards. Behind Scott's leadership, the Pioneers forced five first half turnovers resulting in 21 points.
Teachey, a sophomore from Teachy, N.C., accounted for 10 of the Lions' 16 points in their 16-14 win over Barton. He was 3-for-4 (75 percent) on field goals, including nailing a game-winning 34-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter. Teachey also recorded one extra point.
