The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Football Players of the Week for games played during week eight of the 2023 season.  Mars Hill quarterback JR Martin was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Emory & Henry defensive back Chendrick Cann was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Wingate kicker Caleb Bonesteel picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors. 

Martin, a senior from Suwanee, Ga., led the Lions to a 21-17 win over Carson-Newman. He threw for 186 yards, going 15-for-20 (75 percent) with two touchdowns through the air. Martin also rushed for 26 yards and picked up his third touchdown of the game. 

Cann, a sophomore from Pinellas Park, Fla., had a game-high 18 tackles, including nine solo tackles with an interception and three pass breakups in the Wasps' 27-24 overtime win over Tusculum.

Bonesteel, a sophomore from Dawsonville, Ga., went five-for-five on extra points and connected on a 36-yard field goal to account for eight of Wingate's 38 points in the Bulldogs' 38-24 win over Barton.
