Football WePlayed Sports Players of the Week Announced for Week Zero
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Football Players of the Week for games played during week zero of the 2025 season. Emory & Henry's Jordan Jackson was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Catawba's Evan Simons was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Wingate's Caleb Bonesteel was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Jackson, a senior from Richmond, Va., led Emory & Henry to a 45-17 season-opening win over Glenville St. on Saturday. He had 26 carries for 226 yards, which included a 67-yard touchdown run. He added two catches for nine yards to give him 235 total yards in the win.
Simons, a graduate student from Chesapeake, Va., recorded a team-high nine tackles with four tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble in Catawba's 45-13 win over Ferrum in the season opener, which also happened to fall on Simons' birthday. The two-time reigning forced fumble leader in the SAC added one in the first game of 2025, while also tacking on sack for one of four TFLs on the night
Bonesteel a graduate student from Dawsonville, Ga., and the 2024 SAC Title game MVP picked up right where he left off. He opened the 2025 season by connecting on three field goals of 40 yards or more, while going 3-for-3 on extra points in Wingate's 30-21 win over UNC Pembroke. Bonesteel opened the scoring with a 42-yard field goal in the first quarter, while drilling a 40-yarder early in the fourth quarter. His 42-yard field goal with 3:25 remaining made it 30-21, giving Wingate a two-possession lead over the Braves.
