MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - In just their second season of competition, the Lander Field Hockey team scored two unanswered goals to take down the Limestone Saints, 2-1, in overtime to capture their first South Atlantic Conference title in program history.
Although the Saints were the first on the board with a goal from Cato Bleijenberg in the 34th minute, the Bearcats answered with a goal of their own from Aniek Vreeken in the 48th minute to tie the game 1-1. In the overtime period, Victoria Hulst secured the win for the Bearcats on a penalty stroke to end the game with a final score of 2-1. For her efforts, Hulst was named the Tournament MVP.
Lander goalie Isabel Elenga recorded one save while Limestone goalie Tereza Koprivova had 10.
Lander finishes the season at 13-6 while Limestone finishes at 12-5.
