Wolves Shutout West Chester 3-0 To Advance To National Championship Game
The top seeded Newberry College Wolves field hockey team continues to make history as they defeated #5 seed West Chester (Pa.) 3-0 in the NCAA Division 2 national semifinals in Bloomsburg, Pa. to advance to Sunday's national championship game at 12:30 p.m.
The Wolves grabbed the advantage less than a minute into the game when midfielder Finet Heemskerk streaked down the far sideline, passed it to Wibien Dahmen who shuffled the ball across the crease to Emma Westbrook who was standing on the doorstep and tapped it in for her 23rd goal of the season and her 60th of her Newberry career.
Less than four minutes later, the Wolves struck again as Payton Keeler, the MVP of the SAC Postseason Tournament and the winner of the NCAA Division 2 Elite Scholar-Athlete Award the previous night, scored a highlight reel goal. She picked up a loose ball near midfield, dribbled it on her backhand through the legs of one Golden Ram defender and beat the West Chester goalkeeper to the near side for her 12th goal of the year to give Newberry a 2-0 lead.
