Carson-Newman’s Sanders, Brevard’s Williams Named SAC Basketball Players of the Week

SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week | Ishmael Sanders, Carson-Newman
Sanders averaged 27.5 points and five rebounds last week, leading Carson-Newman to a pair of victories that moved the Eagles into a tie for second in the conference standings.
The senior opened his week by scoring 25 points and grabbing five rebounds on Wednesday in a key 79-77 victory over No. 7 Lincoln Memorial – marking just the second LMU loss of the season. He followed that performance with 30 points and five boards on Saturday in an 81-76 C-N win against Lenoir-Rhyne, which included a perfect 13-of-13 showing from the foul line.
Sanders has now scored 25 or more points on eight occasions this season, and ranks sixth in the SAC in scoring at 19.2 points per game.
SAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week | Katie Williams, Brevard
Williams keyed Brevard to road wins over Mars Hill and Queens last week by averaging 21 points, 8.5 rebounds and four assists per game.
On Wednesday at Mars Hill, Williams poured in 28 points – including a 21-of-22 performance from the free-throw line – in an 86-74 Tornado win. Williams' 21 made free throws set a Brevard record and tied for the third-most in SAC history. She also set career highs in the contest with nine rebounds and five assists.
The sophomore then went for 14 points, eight boards and three assists on Saturday in a 61-39 victory at Queens. She leads the SAC in free-throw shooting at 88.2-percent.
