Carson-Newman's Brenegan Named D2CIDA Men's Basketball National Player of the Week
AUGUSTA, GA -- Nick Brenegan's record-breaking week resulted in yet another award on Tuesday as the Carson-Newman guard was named the men's basketball Division II Player of the Week by the D2CIDA. The junior from Greenville, S.C., set the NCAA Division II record for three-pointers made in a game with 18 in a win over Newberry, setting a South Atlantic Conference record with 64 points in the game.
Brenegan hit 21 of 34 total shots, including 18 of 27 three-pointers, and all four of his free throw attempts. The 64 points is the most in a single game in NCAA Division II this season - by 15 points - and the most in all three NCAA Divisions. He averaged 35.5 points per game over two games for Carson-Newman on the week, shooting 57% from the field and 61% from long range, adding 3.5 rebounds per game.
Brenegan leads NCAA Division II in made three-pointers per game and is second in the SAC in scoring at 20.7 per contest. He also leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage.
